What is engraving?

Engraving is the process of cutting or carving into a hard surface. At Aitkens Pewter, we use a manually operated diamond-tip engraving machine to trace letters onto your piece.

What can be engraved?

While any piece of pewter could be engraved, our machine's clamping system limits us to flat pieces (ornaments, plaques, etc) or the side of a round piece such as a mug or bowl. We can not engrave on the bottom of anything larger than a memory box. If a piece can commonly be engraved, we have indicated in the item's description, but if you are unsure or have questions you can always contact us.

What are my options?

Our experienced engravers have a lot of practice choosing the best size and placement of text to complement your piece. Right now we are exploring how to make choosing options easier for you, but in the mean time please don't hesitate to call or e-mail our retail store if you have special requests.

We have three font styles available for you to choose: Script, Century, and Block (click to enlarge!)

How do I order engraving?

As mentioned above, we are trying to find the best way to offer engraving through our online store. For now, please indicate your message and font choice as a note on the order, or by contacting us as soon as your order has been placed.

We will then send you an invoice via email for the remaining engraving charges. Engraving is 1.00$ per letter with a minimum charge of 10.00$. You can pay the invoice directly by clicking the pay now button on the email, or give us a call to pay over the phone.

We're looking forward to personalizing your pewter!
