The icy waters of the North Atlantic hold many secrets. Among the most intriguing is what happened on the night of April 14, 1912, when the Titanic, the largest luxury liner of its day, collided with an iceberg about 600 kilometres south of Newfoundland. At exactly 11:40 PM, beneath a clear, starry sky, the ship, once deemed unsinkable, faced its tragic end. A few hours later, amid the anguished cries of passengers and crew, the massive ship sank bow-first, carrying more than a thousand people to eternity.

Panic ensued, yet amidst the chaos, the musicians famously played "Nearer, My God, to Thee," continuing to perform to help calm passengers in the ship's final moments. Their dedication has become a legendary part of the Titanic's story. Our Titanic Ornament commemorates the 100th anniversary of these tragic events in the early morning darkness of April 15, 1912. It also honours the memory of those who perished and the Halifax grave sites where more than 150 of the victims are buried.
