New Brunswick Galley Memory Box
TO BE DISCONTINUED.
The Galley is the ancient ship used on the Provincial flag. It reflects the two early principal economic activities that were carried in the province, shipping and shipbuilding.
The galley, or lymphad, is the representation of an ancient, single-masted ship propelled by oars, and is used primarily in Scottish heraldry.
The word lymphad comes from the Gaelic “long fhada,” which refers to a long ship. The centuries-old symbol not only reflects the province of New Brunswick’s strong Scottish connection but also its rich shipbuilding and shipping heritage.
