Established in 1907 as the Nova Scotia Technical College, DalTech is today a constituent college of Dalhousie University. The college began with this single building on Spring Garden Road and conferred its first degrees in civil, electrical, mechanical, metallurgical, and mining engineering in 1920. New programs were eventually added, such as agriculture, chemical, food science, and industrial engineering. In 1961, the school of architecture was founded. The campus grew to include buildings on Barrington, Queen, and Morris street. in 1980, the "Tech" changed it's name to the Technical University of Nova Scotia, and became commonly known as "TUNS".

Since amalgamating with Dalhousie University in April 1997, TUNS has assumed the name DalTech, and this original building houses its Faculty of Architecture.

DalTech endeavours to continue in the tradition of its predecessor, by maintaining an impressive academic and research standing on an international level.
