The cross of St. Brigid, or Brighid of Ireland, is an important symbol in Celtic lore and Christianity. The Celtic goddess Brighid is best know for guarding fires, both in the home and in metalsmithing.
Saint Brigid, a patron saint of Ireland, adopted Christianity in the fifth Century AD. Her feast day February 1, celebrates her kindness and generosity. She is credited with creating the first monastery in Kildare and caring for the sick.
